Discover Maastricht
The best way to experience the charm of Maastricht is to meander through its cobblestoned streets, accompanied by a knowledgeable guide. Walk through the beautiful parks and past the old city walls which protected Maastricht from attacks centuries ago. Stroll through the Stokstraat Quarter which boasts the most exclusive shopping in The Netherlands and feel the awe of the magnificent squares with their majestic churches and welcoming outdoor cafes.
For a smooth transition into the modern side of life in Maastricht, enjoy lunch at Coffee Lovers. A café with a contemporary interior, the name indicates that they specialize in coffee and specialty coffee drinks. But their sandwiches alone are also worth the visit.
Refreshed and re-energized, it’s time to visit the Bonnefanten Museum, the place for contemporary art in Limburg. The building, designed by Italian architect Aldo Rossi, features an extraordinary dome that has changed the face of architecture in Maastricht. The interior, created with natural materials and plenty of daylight, is the perfect setting in which to appreciate the art.

Historic & Culinary Limburg CANCELLED
In the beautiful countryside just outside of Maastricht lies an historic and charming hotel by the name of Château St. Gerlach. With breathtaking views over the River Geul, rolling hills, limestone caves and a nature reserve, the hotel is the perfect place starting point for a nature walk.

After building up an appetite, it’s time for lunch in the Bistrôt de Liège at Château St. Gerlach.
The “Jezuïetengrotten” or Jezuit Caves are the setting for the day’s next adventure. A guided walk through this underground labyrinth, the remains of a former quarry, reveals fossils that were formed millions of years ago (when this region was still below sea level).
The Dutch wine-making tradition, which originated in Roman times, paused in the Middle Ages to give way to other agricultural developments. In 1970 the first grapevine since that time was planted atop a hill in Maastricht, founding the vineyard which is now the oldest and largest producer of Dutch wine, De Apostelhoeve. That vineyard now spans 6 hectares and produces four lovely dry white wines from Müller-Thurgau, Auxerrois, Riesling and Pinot-Gris grapes. Following the tour, visitors have the opportunity to taste the wines while enjoying idyllic views of the Maastricht countryside.
