 IDF/ISO Analytical Week, 17-21 May 2010, Montreal, Canada

The IDF/ISO Analytical Week is the annual topical event for experts in the field of standardization of methods of analysis and sampling for milk and milk products.
A half-day symposium will be organized during the week. The symposium is likely to cover other fields than those merely related to analysis and sampling. The symposium is embedded in a series of business meetings of ISO/IDF Project Groups and the six IDF Standing Committees in the field of analytical methods of sampling and analysis.

 IDF 5th International Mastitis Conference, 21-24 March 2010, Christchurch, New Zealand

The conference will be the principal continuing education conference event for dairy cattle veterinarians in New Zealand in 2010, and it is hoped that veterinarians from the Asia Pacific region will attend.

Topics proposed for the programme are prevention and integrated control, genomics and resistance to Mastitis, diagnostic tools, bacterial ecology, microbiology, physiology, detection, modeling.

Christchurch is New Zealand’s second largest city, and is in the South Island, an area of growth and expansion of the New Zealand dairy industry.

 Fourth IDF Dairy Science and Technology Week, 20-24 April 2009, Rennes, Brittany, France

The principal aim of the event is to synthesize the most recent knowledge about milk composition and to show how native milk molecules interact with process and ecosystems to lead to expected technological and nutritional functionalities. This will be achieved by a programme focused on three main themes:
- Advances in basic knowledge on native milk components and macromolecules structures, in particular through the use of new investigation techniques,
- Effects of processes on structures and components, new generated structures and functionalities : technological (ingredients), nutritional (digestibility), and health (allergenicity),
- Knowledge on microbial ecosystems in milk and milk products.

In addition, an Open Session will be organised to allow for and encourage presentation of contributed papers on other subjects related to dairy science and technology. There will also be technical tours and IDF business meetings.

 DIAA/IDF Functional Dairy Foods, 24-25 February 2009

The International Dairy Federation (IDF) in conjunction with the Dairy Industry Association of Australia (DIAA) invites you to join colleagues in Melbourne, Australia on 24 and 25 February 2009 for Functional Dairy Foods 2009 - New opportunities and challenges in production and bioactivity of functional dairy foods.

The event will focus on new opportunities and challenges in production and bioactivity of functional dairy foods and their impact on health. The main objective is to further the knowledge in the fields of both nutrition research and dairy science and technology with regard to dairy-based functional foods. The event will provide a platform for exchange of knowledge and information of international top experts in the field. Full peer-reviewed papers will be published, in advance of the conference, as a special issue of The Australian Journal of Dairy Technology (AJDT).

 IDF / INRA First International Symposium on Minerals and Dairy Products, 1-3 October 2008, Saint Malo, France

As constituents of milk and dairy products, minerals are of major importance in technologies and nutrition. Progress in dairy science and technology has increased the level of knowledge concerning the mineral fraction in various fields including physical, chemical, structural, functional, technological, nutritional and methodological functions. The symposium will present an up-date on scientific knowledge in different areas, undertake an assessment of the knowledge, clarify and elucidate the complexity of the behaviour of minerals, identify unresolved problems and propose new strategies in research and research-development. It will provide a better understanding of the role of minerals at different levels to researchers, scientists, students and experts from the industry as the primary target audience.

 First IDF Dairy Farming Summit, 25-27 June 2008, Edinburgh/Scotland, United Kingdom

"Climate Change - The Heat is On?"

The objective of the conference, as the first IDF event of its kind, is to increase the participation of dairy farmers and raise the profile of dairy farming within IDF activities. Subjects to be covered will include climate change and its impact on animal health and dairy farming, specific environmental issues and globalisation of the customer base. Other topics for presentation should cover comparing and contrasting the situation in other parts of the world (e.g. North America and the approach to biofuels) and how to manage cows more efficiently. The event will comprise two days of conference, one days of tours and possible IDF business meetings.

 Third IDF Dairy Science and Technology Week, 12-16 May 2008, Quebec City, Canada

The symposium will bring forward scientific and technological advances addressing dairy market trends such as health and benefits of dairy foods, as well as technological topics including process optimization, ingredients interactions, texture creation, microbiological advances for quality and healthy products and flexible processes and safety in relation to dairy products and ingredients. The Third IDF Dairy Science and Technology Week 2008 in Quebec City, Canada will be an occasion for professionals and experts to meet each other and exchange latest findings and scientific knowledge. Business meetings of the IDF Standing Committee on Dairy Science and Technology and its Action Teams will be held following the symposium. The event also includes a technical visit and a gala banquet.  IDF Symposium on Cheese Ripening, 9-13 March 2008, Berne, Switzerland

After Lund 1992, Besançon 1996, Banff 2000 and Prague 2004 this 5th IDF Symposium on Cheese will deal with cheese ripening, microbiology, characterization and flavour formation. The programme will cover the latest scientific findings about important microbial and enzymatic activities during cheese ripening, control of flavour formation and chemical analysis, sensory studies, texture, structure and functionality of cheese and the influence of technology on cheese ripening as well as packaging and safety. Ten sessions will be held, each introduced by a major review presentation: Nutritional and Health Aspects / Bioactive Components; Influence of Milk Production Conditions on Milk and Cheese Quality; Starter and Ripening Organisms; ‘Omics’ Techniques; Flavour Development Measured with Sensory and Instrumental Methods; Characteristics of Traditional, Regional Cheese Varieties; Process Analysis and Control; New Cheese Making Technologies (incl.  IDF/FAO Symposium on Revolution in Food Safety Management, 13-15 February 2008, Bali, Indonesia

The symposium aims at improving food safety and dairy development worldwide by providing practical guidance for the implementation of new concepts and tools of a risk-based approach in the dairy production chain. Various elements in effective management of microbiological and chemical hazards relevant to the dairy chain will be covered. This will enable the dairy sector, including dairy businesses in emerging countries, to better understand these new approaches and consider the feasibility of their application in their sector. It will therefore focus on practical experiences, challenges, planning and feasibility by means of presentations on the various concepts. Case studies and practical examples will also be presented.

 IDF Regional Conference on Fermented Milks - Technology and Nutrition, 17 May 2007, Moscow, Russia

The conference is an open event that aims to provide a platform for presentation and exchange of most recent knowledge focusing on industrial application of innovative technologies for the production of fermented milk products as well as highlighting the unique nutritional benefits of fermented milks for human health. The programme will be composed of invited presentations by selected speakers. One half-day session will focus on technology and industrial application while another half-day session will highlight the manifold benefits of fermented milks for nutrition and health and outline regulatory challenges. The following items are being considered for inclusion in the programme: historical aspects of research and development in fermented milks; optimization of fermented milks composition, process and product properties; technological challenges within functional fermented milk products; medical and health-protecting characteristics of fermented milks; functional cultures and their specific roles (probiotics, symbiotic); health claims and other regulatory aspects in relation to fermented milks.

 5th International Symposium on the Challenge to Sheep and Goats Milk Sectors, 18-20 April 2007, Alghero/Sardinia, Italy

The symposium in a follow-up from four previous IDF events focusing on sheep and goats milk and their products that were held in Greece, Cyprus and Spain between 1985 and 2004. The general objective is to give a renewed vision of knowledge on husbandry and milk production, technology, chemistry, physics, microbiology, nutrition etc, without losing sight of the significance of markets and appropriate policies, as they have evolved since 2004, to scientists and other professionals involved in the sheep and goats dairy sectors.

 IDF/TEAGASC International Symposium on Advances in Milking, 11 April 2007, Cork, Ireland

The event will outline the provisions in the new ISO standards for milking installations including changes to previous versions with particular focus on test procedures and installation standards. Presentations will be given by members of the IDF Action Team on Milking Equipment & Methods and experts from ISO TC23/WG1 on Milking Machines which have been responsible for the ISO revisions. The main objective is to improve the standard of testing and reporting on milking machine performance and introducing new and innovative milking time test procedures. The event will improve the awareness of effects of new milking technologies on milking performance, milk quality and labour demand. Manufacturers and distributors of milking machines and associated automation, technicians involved in installation and testing of milking machines, personnel involved in advising farmers on milk quality and labour efficiency, export-import companies, advisors and consultants to the farming sector and food inspection and control authorities should attend.
