FAO is an intergovernmental, technical development agency. It was founded in 1945 to raise nutrition and living standards through improved agricultural production and rural development. Its core strategies include contribution to the eradication of of food insecurity and rural poverty; developing policy and regulatory frameworks for food, agriculture, forestry and fisheries; creating sustainable increases in the availability of food and agricultural products; supporting conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources; and improving decision-making through the provision of information.

Codex Alimentarius
The Codex Alimentarius Commission was created in 1963 by FAO and WHO to develop food standards, guidelines and related texts such as codes of practice under the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme. The main purposes of this Programme are protecting health of the consumers and ensuring fair trade practices in the food trade, and promoting coordination of all food standards work undertaken by international governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Organisation Mondiale de la Santé Animale (OIE) - World Organization for Animal Health
OIE is an intergovernmental body, not part of the UN system, which brings together the official veterinary authorities of the member governments. Over 160 countries are members.
OIE has produced and constantly updates the International Animal Health Code (Terrestrial Code) which categorizes animal diseases according to severity of impact.
OIE is also concerned with animal welfare issues and good farming practice.

International Organization for Standardization, (ISO)
ISO is a network of the national standards institutes of 148 countries on the basis of one member per country. ISO acts to promote consensus on solutions that meet requirements of business and the broader needs of society, such as the needs of stakeholder groups like consumers and users.
ISO publishes a very broad range of international standards covering dairying (methods of sampling and analysis, engineering) but also the rest of the food industry and standards in general

World Health Organization (WHO)
WHO is the United Nations specialized agency for health. It was established on 7 April 1948. WHO's objective, as set out in its Constitution, is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health. Health is defined in WHO's Constitution as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
IDF's contacts with WHO relate to human nutrition and food hygiene.

Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)
The OECD groups 30 member countries to discuss, develop and refine economic and social policies. They compare domestic and international policies to help members and non-members deal with an increasingly globalised world. Their exchanges may lead to legally binding agreements. The OECD also produces non-binding instruments on difficult issues such as its Guidelines for multinational entreprises.
IDF co-operates with OECD in relation to dairy policies and economics.

World Trade Organization (WTO)
WTO is the global organization that deals with the rules of trade between nations. WTO agreements are signed by governments. The goal is to help producers of goods and services, exporters and importers, to conduct their business. Agriculture has held a prominent position in the WTO negotiations ever since The Agriculture Agreement which formed part of The "Uruguay Round" achieved under the auspices of The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), the predecessor body to WTO.
IDF helps introduce the expertise of the dairy sector on economics and policies to WTO Secretariat specialists in this field.
